Dolby® E is a scalable production and contribution bitstream for delivering up to 8 channels of up to eight programmes in professional infrastructures (studio, broadcast). Every programme can have its own metadata. Metadata are compatible to DD or DD+ but contain additional information. When transcoding Dolby E to DD or DD+ metadata are adapted accordingly.

Dolby Digital® is a scaleable transmission or consumer bitstream for delivering mono, stereo or surround sound (5.1, 6.1) to the consumer. It is used for DVD, BluRay-disc, 35 mm film (cinema), DVB/DTV, digital radio and game consoles. Coding process is „Adaptive Transform Coding No.3, also called AC-3. Metadata accompaying the audio are executed in the consumers Dolby Digital Decor, some parameters can be controlled by the user.

Dolby® Digital Plus is a highly scaleable transmission or consumer bitstream for delivering mono, stereo or surround sound (5.1, 7.1) with or without audio description. It is used for BluRay, DVB/DTV and IPTV. Coding process is „Enhanced Adaptive Transform Coding No.3, also called E-AC-3.Metadata accompaying the audio are applied to the audio in the consumers DD+ decoder, some parameters can be controlled by the user (including mixing ratio from main mix and audio description).
